Instant glamour.

I love a touch of glamour. Mercury glass adds instant glamour to any room, I love shiny pieces mixed into a pretty vignette. How gorgeous is this mercury glass hobnail vase above? (And I love that John Derian paperweight: a great motto to remember).

Collections of 19th Century mercury glass candlesticks. They look great displayed en masse but I'd be happy with just two. So pretty!

A mercury glass lamp base would be a welcomed addition to my home. I love the gourd shape, does anyone know where I could find something similar in Australia?

A fabulous collection of vintage mercury glass vases. Hand painted with floral images indicating their true authenticity. It's hard to find beautiful vintage mercury pieces in Australia, even my friend ebay hasn't been helpful.

What do you think, are you loving these gorgeous pieces? What are you lusting after for your home?

I love them and I love the history behind mercury glass.. I love that they're not just pretty.. the pieces were created that way for a reason yet the ones coveted most now perhaps are the ones with chips missing or "flaws" .. and in that time.. I imagine, a missing chip of the silver color would reveal it's secret.. good post.. great images..

I never knew it was called Mercury glass. It is beautiful isn't it. Like yourself, I'm a bit of a bowerbird. I love somthing shiny in the mix. I will have to keep an eye out for Mercury glass from now on.

I think I feel another collection coming on - you're right it is hard to find but there does seem to be a little bit of it starting to appear in shops! Lovely post.

Did you happen to see the other shots of the room that the first picture in this post came from? They were all beautiful. Sometimes Country Living has some of the cheesiest images but then they turn around and surprise me with some really awesome ones.

and yes love mercury glass.
